**The Basics of Roulette**

The rules are simplicity itself. A ball is spun and players wager on which of the 38 (37 for a European wheel) slots it will land. Simple right? But there a wide variety of wagers a player can make with different payouts, here they are:

**Inside Bets **

Bets made on the part of the table with only the numbers, including 0 and 00. There are five different types of bets that can be made:

**Straight-Up – **Betting on an individual number by placing the chip directly over it.

Payout*: ***35: 1**

**Split – **Betting on two numbers that border each other either horizontally or vertically,

Example: 1 and 2 or 1 and 4. Not allowed for diagonal numbers, example: 1 and 5. Place

the chip on the line between the two numbers

Payout: **17: 1**

**Street **– Betting on three numbers in a horizontal row, example 22, 23, 24. Place the chip on

the edge of the row.

Payout: **11: 1**

**Corner – **Bet on for numbers that form a box, example: 19, 20, 22, 23. Place the chip at the

intersection of the four numbers.

Payout: **8: 1**

**Six Lines – **Bet on six numbers in two bordering horizontal lines, example: 1, 2, 3 and 4, 5, 6.

Place chip like the **Street** bet but at the intersection of the two rows.

Payout: **5: 1**

**Outside Bets**

These are the bets that don’t deal with the number spaces directly but rather with other parts of a spins outcome. They are as follows:

**Black, Red**

1 to 18

19 to 36

Odd

Even

All the above pay out at **1: 1**

You can also bet any group of 12 numbers either in the three groups numerically on the table: 1-12, 13-24, 25-36, or in the three 12 number columns.

Both of this type of bets pay out at (depending on the casino) **3:1 **or **2: 1**

Remember, the table minimum dictates what you can bet where per spin. Playing inside bets requires that the minimum must be played on the table’s numbered area per spin. For example, a table with a $10 minimum means the player can bet 10 different numbers, place different amounts on different numbers, or spread it around on any of the 5 other types of bets, but there must be at least $10 in play in the numbered area per spin. For outside bets, the table minimum must be played in *each space* the player wishes to wager. **Play Roulette**
